Von Yilan waren wir echt überrascht. So viele verschiedene Spezialitäten in einer Stadt anzutreffen, ddas haben wir nicht erwartet.
Angefangen mit der süssen Versuchung. Manchmal sind die Spezialitäten in einem einfachen Geschäft an der Strasse und so war es auch hier. Eine Mischung von Früchten, süssen Bohnen und Tofu mit
Zucker abgeschmeckt und mit Eis gekühlt, so ist TonChua.

Yilan really surprised us. We never expected so many different Highlights in one city. Starting with the sweet temptation. Sometimes the specialites are in a simple shop on the street and that's
how it was here. A mixture of fruits, sweet beans, tofu, with a bit of sugar and ice that's TonChua.
Das Palace Hotel ist mehr als einfach ein Hotel, es wurde vor 20 Jahren in einem grossen Park angelegt. Über die Jahre wurden eine Retrostrasse dazu gebaut und ein Theater. Viel Grün und Blumen
laden zum Spaziergang ein.

KAVALAN ist ein
indigenes Volk von Taiwan, heute ist es auch der Name für Singel Malt Whiskeys der Firmengruppe King Car Group. Diese stellt Lebensmittel, Getränke und auch Waschmittel her.
2005 erfüllte sich der Firmengründer T.T. Lee den Traum einer eigenen Whiskey Fabrik. Hier wird Whiskey im grossen Massstab hergestellt. Über die Mengen wird an der Führung nicht gesprochen, doch
kann man eine Zuordnung errechnen. Der Whiskey wird durchschnittlich 5 Jahre gelagert. Der Lager bestand ist rund 50‘000 Fass zu 180l, so werden jedes Jahr 10‘000Fass hergestellt oder 1.8M
Liter à das wären 5000l Whiskey täglich. Für eine gleichbleibende Qualität wird der Single Malt aus bis zu 5 Fässern abgeschmeckt und anschliessend abgefüllt.
Entsprechend dem Alter von 5 Jahren ist es ein junger Whiskey. Beim Verkosten habe ich versucht die viel gepriesenen exotischen Nuancen zu erkennen, da bin ich nicht gut genug. Auch der berühmte
Tropfen Wasser hat nichts verändert. Fazit: ein solider Whiskey aber das Preis / Leistungsverhältnis ist nicht nach meinem Geschmack. Eine Flasche ist über 50Euro/7dl. Der Besuch hat sich aber
auf jeden Fall gelohnt, die Führung war zwar Chinesisch abder trotzdem äusserst interessant!

the founder oft he company T.T.Lee fullfilled himself a wish by starting up the Whiskey factrory. Here whiskey is made in big scale, I estimate 5000l a day. The constant quality is adjusted by
using up to 5 barrels of their own destillates. The whistey is botteled at an age of average 5 years, it is a young age whiskey the age isn’t mentioned on the bottles.
In the whiskey tasting I tried to find the exotic taste, but I’m not good enough. Also when adding a drop of water nothing changed. Conclusion: it’s a mature whiskey, but I don’t like the price
performance ratio. The price is more then 50Euro/7l. A visit to the whiskey factrory is however highly recommended, the guided tour (in Chinese) is very interesting!
Überraschender
Weise gibt es Whiskey Konkurrenz in der Stadt Yilan. Neben der privanten Manufaktur von KAVALAN gibt es die staatliche Taiwan Tabacco and Liquor Cooperation Yilan Destillery. Diese importiert
Whiskey aus Wales und ist darauf spezialisiert feine Goldplättchen beizumengen. Dies gibt dem Whiskey den besonderen Geschmack. Der Whiskey schmeckt rund mit einem nussigen Abgang. Auch der Preis
war ok, so habe ich eine Flasche goldigen Whiskey gekauft(1900NT$/7dl). Neben Whiskey werden hier auch traditionelle Reis-Schnäps angeboten. Wer zu viel Geld hat kann Eine Mega Flasche mit
Kunstwerk für 450‘000NT$ kaufen.

Surprisingly there is a competition downtown Yilan, the Taiwan Tabacco and Liquor Cooperation Yilan Destillery. While KAVALAN is privatly owned, this cooperation is state
owned. The import their whiskey from Wales and they are specialized to add nano paricle sized gold to it. They say the gold changes the whiskey and gives it a unique taste. The whiskey tastes
smooth and has a nice finish. The price was ok too so I bought a bottle of golden whiskey (1900NT$/7dl). Besides the whiskey they produce rice liquor. For those who want to buy something special
they offer Mega Bottles decorated by well know artists at prices that might be up to 450’000NT$.
Teppanyaki der besonderen Art. Das Teppanyaki in Yilan
ist immer ausgebucht, das liegt zum einen an der ausgezeichneten Qualität des Essens und zum Anderen an der Nähe zur Hauptstadt Taipei.
Unsere Freunde haben uns eingeladen zu einem unvergesslichen Abschiedsessen der besonderen Art,
eben alles frisch zubereitet, am Tisch und direkt serviert. Prädikat Spitzenklasse!

The special Teppanyaki. The Teppanyaki in Yilan is allways booked out. This is on one hand because of the outstanding quality of the food and on the other hand because it is close enough to the
capitol Taipei.
Our friends have invited us to this unforgettable farewell dinner which is so very special because everything is cooked fresh on the table and directly served. My comment: Top of the Top!
This is for you George! Thank you for all the travelling hints for the special places in Taiwan and the hotels, we felt all times very well organized! Finally the unforgetable dinner and time together in Yilan - thanks to you and Cathy - you made our trip perfect!
